The Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island is a great getaway for a relaxing Hawaiian vacation. I visited the hotel three years ago (and about ten years before that) and was thoroughly impressed with both of my stays. The hotel is luxurious with features including a boat and monorail for transportation, multiple pools, and a lagoon. There is also a dolphin pool with opportunities (for a price) to interact with the dolphins! These features and the enclosed nature of the hotel make it very family friendly.
One criticism of the hotel is that it does not have its own beach with direct access to the ocean. However, for visitors who care only about being able to go for a swim in ocean water, the lagoon does serve this purpose. Along with the aforementioned amenities, the service was great and there were a variety of activities to keep me and the members of my family busy for our week-long trip. For example, we had the opportunity to make our own leis in one of the shops on the hotel’s boardwalk. We also had a caricature produced of our family with our photos superimposed on a cartoon image. It was a great keepsake! Everything costs extra, so plan to spend a fair amount of money on whatever exciting activities you choose.
As far as dining is concerned, the options are a bit pricey, but there are a variety of restaurants within the hotel, including cafeteria-style eateries and fancier Italian and Japanese restaurants. There is also a great breakfast option that is free for those Hilton Honors visitors who qualify for vouchers. Additionally, the Kings Shops mall is nearby with cheaper food options (Subway for example) just a short drive away.
Overall, I had a great experience at the Hilton Waikoloa Village and would recommend it, especially to families with children who don’t mind spending extra money on all the activities!
