Last July my boyfriend and I flew to the Big Island to celebrate a birthday. I couldn’t afford the big fancy hotels so I was happy when I came across Dolphin Bay in Hilo (partially because I love dolphins). I didn’t expect much because I was really just looking for something affordable to match my budget, but I was extremely pleased with my stay here. This place had a very down-to-earth home type feel to it. I felt completely comfortable the moment I walked through door. The rooms and the entire hotel are warm, welcoming and exceptionally clean.
The staff is out of this world! I’ve never in my life experienced a more friendly hotel staff…they were great! With this being my first time to the big island they were extremely helpful giving me info and directions. They recommended Ocean Sushi for dinner and it was surprisingly good even though I’m not a huge sushi fan.
The hotel grounds are so beautiful and peaceful and the singing frogs were quite an experience! It was a very personal experience being that there are only 18 total rooms. It is just a short ways to downtown but when you look around at the lush scenery it definitely doesn’t seem like it. It was nice to have our own kitchenette right in room. The hotel offers fresh fruit all day long for you to snack on and it was so great to taste freshly picked fruits. They offer muffins for breakfast and you can always get a fresh cup of coffee. There is no A/C here but you get a good breeze if you keep everything opened up. The next time I come to the Big Island I will definitely be staying at the Dolphin Bay!
